Details of Session Topics

I. Insights from the timeless wisdom of yoga: The Yogasutras of Patanjali

  • Thought management: Much of our time is taken up with our thoughts. We all know that when our thinking is clear and focused, we are more focused. We would all like to be that way all the time. Yoga is the most ancient science of focusing the mind. What can we learn from it in the context of our lives today?
  • Emotional wellness: We all want to feel well in our mind. Yet, we are all troubled at times by unwanted emotions like anger, fear, worry and anxiety. How can we move away from negative emotions? How do we lead a more fulfilled and peaceful life?

II. Meditation

  • Sound as meditation: Sound is one of the most dynamic tools that can be used for meditation as it is deeply linked with the mind and breath. The use of simple and universal mantras can aid profoundly in focusing and quietening the mind.
  • The practice of meditation: simple, universal techniques with a basic understanding of why and how to meditate.

III. Asana

  • The most popular face of yoga today - asanas when practiced properly with appropriate breathing can bestow the five key benefits of strength, flexibility, structural alignment, physiological functioning as well as mental steadiness.
  • The importance of the maintenance of the spinal curves for good health will be explained.
  • The fundamental principles of combining movement and breathing for good health will be introduced in the interactive learning sessions, the applications of which will be covered in the practice sessions.
  • The core asanas - forward bends, backbends, twists and lateral bends along with their appropriate adaptations will be taught practically in balanced and sequenced courses with individual guidance in the practice sessions.

IV. Pranayama

  • Essentials of pranayama - The breath is the all-powerful link between the body and mind. You will learn how to use the breath most effectively in the asanas as well as how to use the breath to focus the mind.
  • Practice of pranayama - Effective techniques of Pranayama will complement the asanas courses in the practice sessions.

V. Diet and Lifestyle
